JASPER, TX (KTRE) - Officers with the Jasper Police Department arrested a 32--year-old woman after she allegedly appeared to be drunk when she went to pick her child up from school and then had to be pepper-sprayed when she refused to leave her vehicle Monday afternoon.
“This was very unusual and tragic on a Monday afternoon,” said Jasper Police Chief Robert MacDonald. “I wish there was some way I could reach out to the children.”
Jennifer Nicole West was booked into the Jasper County Jail on two misdemeanor charges - driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest. She was released from the jail after she posted a bail amount of $8,000.
According to Jasper MacDonald, the incident occurred around 3 p.m. Monday. He said his department received a 911 call about a possibly intoxicated woman that had come to pick her child up from the Few Primary campus.
The officer that responded to the scene said that West was driving a black Ford Eagle, and onlookers said she had a open container of beer in the car.
When the JPD officer asked West to get out of her vehicle, she allegedly refused. As a result, the officer had to pepper spray her to get her to comply, MacDonald said.
West had at least 20 bottles of opened beer containers of Miller Lite and Keystone, according to MacDonald.
