DIBOLL, TX (KTRE) - Officers with the Diboll Police Department arrested a 31-year-old man on Thursday in connection to allegations that he burned his 8-year-old step-daughter with a cigarette on April 1.
James Earl Warren Jr., of Tyler, is still being held in the Angelina County jail on a third-degree felony injury to a child charge. No bail has been set at this time.
According to the arrest affidavit, a Diboll police officer spoke to the girl's grandmother on April at the police station. She said while her 8-year-old granddaughter was in the temporary custody of the girl's mother at a residence on Avalon Street, she was burned on her stomach with a cigarette.
The grandmother told police that when she asked the 8-year-old girl what had happened, the girl told her that Warren, her step-father, had burned her with his cigarette, the affidavit stated. According to the affidavit, the girl's injury was consistent with a cigarette burn.
