LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Two men have been injured after crashing into a power pole while racing on the feeder road of South First Street near Hobby Lobby in Lufkin Friday morning.

According to Lufkin police spokesman, David Casper, John Dakota Allen, 20, of Lufkin, was in a Ford Mustang and Richard Lowery, 20, of Lufkin, was in a Dodge Challenger, and both were stopped at a red light on the feeder road around 10:45 a.m. When the light turned green, they began racing. Lowery lost control, hit Allen's car, and then spun into a nearby light pole, Casper said.

Allen was arrested and is being charged with racing and no insurance, Casper said. Lowery was taken to a Lufkin hospital then taken by helicopter to a Tyler hospital with serious injuries. Lowery's passenger, Greg Hollis, 39, was taken to a Lufkin hospital.
