Lufkin High School held their state send-off Friday evening for their golf team.
The team consists of senior John Portwood, senior Cole Goodson, sophomore Lawson Klotze, and senior Marco Maldonado.
The team has won four of their last six tournaments and currently rank third in the state. They have all the momentum going in and clearly have the support of their school as well.
“It pumps us up a little bit just knowing we have the school behind us, all the staff, and students. It feels great knowing they're here to support us,” said Maldonado.
In just his second year with the program, head coach Lynn Hebert is sending his first Panther group to state.
“I know how good they are and I know how hard they work, and how much effort they put into it so I'm not surprised at all,” said Hebert. “The goal the whole year was to get to state and now the goal becomes to win.”
The state tournament won't start until Monday. It will be held at Wolfdancer Golf Club in Lost Pines, Texas.
