HUNTINGTON, TX (KTRE) -

During the storm that blew through East Texas early Monday morning, a tree fell on a Huntington woman's home while she was sleeping.

According to Bonnie Harper, a spokeswoman for the Ora Volunteer Fire Department, the home is located at 304 E. Walnut Street. The tree fell on the house sometime between 6 and 6:30 a.m.

Harper said Janet McBride, the owner of the residence, is deaf, so she couldn't hear the tree coming.

“It could have been much worse,” Harper said.

City of Huntington employees and Ora volunteer firefighters had been working for three hours to remove the tree from the home as of 3:30 p.m. Monday.

Harper said that McBride was taken to CHI St. Luke's Memorial Hospital in Lufkin to be checked out for injuries.
