DIBOLL, TX (KTRE) -

Officers with the Diboll Police Department arrested a 35-year-old Corsicana man on Monday in connection to allegations that he whipped his 3-year-old stepson with a plastic coat hanger as punishment for a soiled diaper.

Desmond Darnell White is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on a third-degree felony injury to a child charge. No bail amount has been set at this time.

According to the arrest affidavit, the incident occurred on April 12. White allegedly used a plastic coat hanger to strike his 3-year-old stepson repeatedly.

The boy had several raised welts on his legs, and the injuries were in the same shape as the coat hanger used, the affidavit stated. Several of the strikes caused the child's skin to break open and bleed.

The victim's sibling told the mother that White used the coat hanger to punish the 3-year-old boy because the child had a dirty diaper.

The affidavit stated that the victim's mother gave White a ride to Corsicana, his home town. The mother allegedly said that White kept apologizing during the two-and-a-half hour drive, but he never gave her a straight answer as to why he hit the boy with a coat hanger.
