NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Contractors from as far away as the Dallas area are in East Texas following up on damage from the April 19th hail storm.

The possibility of a hail damaged home is often the last thing a homeowner thinks about and the first thing crossing the mind of contractors.

On Oakview Drive in Northeast Nacogdoches there was marble-size to close to golf-ball size hail just over a week ago. At the time homeowners thought fast to move vehicles into the garage, but like home owner Bill Wilson, they didn't give the possibility of roof damage a second thought.

"The roof I didn't think about really until I saw the neighbor's being inspected," Wilson said.

The inspectors are from B & C Exteriors, a highly rated roof and home remodeling contractor from Grandview. The owner stays on the road a lot following storms across Texas in hopes of landing a repair job.

"In most cases, that entails roofing, siding, gutters, sometimes some window damage," said Bill Dudley, the owner of B&C Exteriors.

Advertising is generally word of mouth or yard signs left at clients' homes. There were as many as seven signs on Oakview.

"I saw them up at a neighbor's house and sort of asked if they would inspect ours while they were in the neighborhood," Wilson said.

The typical hail damage according to B&C are dents in the older composition roofs sometimes detected from black spots.

"What it does is make an indentation into the composition shingle and in most cases you'll have granule loss directly at the impact," Dudley said.

After the contractor comes to your neighborhood and tells you, "Yes, you do have some hail damage," the next step is usually call your insurance company. And don't be surprised if they insist on sending their own inspector.

Some insurance companies are satisfied with a contractor's cost estimate, something Wilson has requested.

"Certainly we want to get it repaired," Wilson said. "A roof is pretty important."

Both the owner of B&C and an insurance adjuster told us there are certain criteria of damage that must occur to satisfy a claim. Rusk, Jacksonville, Appleby, and Garrison are places where contractors and adjusters are working.
