HOUSTON COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Texas Department of Public Safety troopers in Houston County arrested a 73-year-old man on Tuesday for allegedly driving while intoxicated with a 6-year-old child in the vehicle with him.
James Davis, of Crockett, is still being held in the Houston County Jail on a state-jail DWI with child charge. No bail amount was available.
According to a press release, DPS troopers responded to a 911 call about a reckless driver on US 287. When they got to the area, they spotted Davis driving north on US 287 and pulled him over.
The trooper who spoke to Davis noticed the smell of alcohol on or about Davis' person, the press release stated. In addition, Davis allegedly door poorly on a field sobriety test. Because there was a 6-year-old child in the car, he was charged with DWI with a child.
Davis was first taken to East Texas Medical Center-Crockett where a blood sample was taken from him. He was then taken to the Houston County Jail.
The child was released into the custody of a family member.
