ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

Following a two-vehicle wreck on US Highway 59 North near the Texas Motor Inn Tuesday afternoon, DPS troopers arrested a 32-year-old Lufkin man for allegedly driving while intoxicated with a 5-year-old boy in the vehicle with him.

Jeremy Ray Bates is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on a state-jail felony DWI with a child charge. His bail has been set at $75,000.

According to a press release, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers were dispatched out to a two-vehicle wreck near the Texas Motor Inn at about 2:38 p.m. Tuesday. One of the troopers made contact with Bates and noticed “a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on or about Bates,” the press release stated.

The press release also stated that Bates appeared unsteady his feet, had slurred speech, and did poorly on the field sobriety test. He was arrested at the scene and charged with DWI with a child.

After a blood sample was obtained from Bates at CHI St. Luke's Memorial Hospital in Lufkin, he was taken to the jail.
