Streets Of Speed: Tryon Road

The KLTV 7 speed zapper is at it again. Today we clocked drivers going more than 25 miles over the speed limit in a residential neighborhood. It was in the 2200 block of Tryon road off Highway 259 in Longview.

The speed limit on Tryon road is 30 miles per hour. Where we set up, there is a hill on both sides of the road. Right off the bat we clocked several going 42 mph.

David Perkins lives in the neighborhood. He stopped to tell us just how dangerous speeding in this area is. "You get people coming from Eastman road and they get going 55 by the time they get down to the bottom of the hill. Then they accelerate and get up to 50, 60 by the time they hit the top of the blind curve on top of a hill," says David.

We then started clocking drivers at 44, 50 and even 56. Some began accelerating as they passed us with our speed zapper. Then we got a little help from the big guns. Two motorcycle officers showed up and they got to work immediately.

The officers say they hear all of the excuses. "I wasn't paying attention. That's #1," says officer Ricky Mitchell.

If speeders are a problem where you live, we'd like to hear about it. You can call our Streets of Speed hotline at 903-510-7720.
