NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Child advocates marked the end of Child Abuse Awareness month Thursday in Nacogdoches.
The Nacogdoches County Child Welfare Board event paid tribute to the many agencies and individuals working together to take care of, on average, 131 Nacogdoches County foster care children.
"It's everyone from the investigators, from law enforcement to all the way down to the foster parents who are literally the lighthouse, the life blood for children once they get into care," said Lisa King
Harold's House, a safe haven for children, received memorial funds placed in honor of Shannon Brown, a Nacogdoches County employee who recently died in a traffic accident. Her brother Dusty, a Child Welfare Board member was there in his sister's behalf.
Afterwards, there was a balloon release honoring all children of abuse.
