AUSTIN, TX (KTRE) -

On Thursday, the Texas Education Agency recognized 400 Title I school campuses from across the state as high-performing and/or high-progress for the 2014-2015 school year. Numerous East Texas school campuses, including Hudson Middle School were among those recognized.

According to the Associated Press, school is considered a Title I campus if at least 40 percent of the students are considered low income. A TEA press release stated that identifying high-performance and/or high-progress Title I schools is a part of the state's conditional waiver from the US Department of Education.

Whether or not a school was identified as high-performing or high-progress is based on statewide reading and math assessments under the State Accountability System for the 2013-2104 school year and graduation rates.

“While we talk of the need to close the education achievement gap, the real work in accomplishing that goal is already taking place on these campuses,” Commissioner of Education Michael Williams said in the press release. “Whether identified as high-performing, high-progress or both, we should be proud of what's taking place at these schools and what it means for the future of Texas.”

To be considered high-performing, a Title I school had to have distinctions based on reading and math scores as well as the highest graduation rates at the high school level. A high-progress school is a Title I campus in the top 25 percent in annual improvement and/or a campus in the top 25 percent of those demonstrating ability to close performance gaps.

  • Longview ISD (Ned E. Williams Elementary)
  • Mabank ISD (Mabank Junior High)
  • Marshall ISD (South Marshall Elementary)
