SAN AUGUSTINE, TX (KTRE) - A San Augustine County jury has reached a not guilty verdict in the case of the man who was accused of molesting a 15-year-old girl in December 2012.
The jury, which was composed of eight men and five women, made its decision to acquit Stacy Jerome Jones in a little over two hours.
A San Augustine County grand jury indicted Jones on a felony indecency with a child charge on June 25, 2013. At that time, his bail was set at $3,000.
The defense only called one witness to the stand. During his testimony on his own behalf, Jones admitted to stroking the girl's hair and kissing her earlobe, but he denied touching her genitalia.
A previous East Texas News story stated that the girl's mother reported the alleged crime on Dec. 5, 2012.
Chief Gary Cunningham with the San Augustine Sheriff's Office said Jones and the victim were left alone in the kitchen. According to the report, Jones touched the girl's hair, kissed her ear, and inappropriately touched her private area.
Following the opening arguments, the jury heard testimony from the victim, the victim's mother, and a San Augustine County Sheriff's deputy.
The jury started deliberating Jones' guilt or innocence at 3:30 p.m.
