ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

When driving down county roads in Angelina County, it's nearly impossible to avoid a pothole.

"These roads have gotten so bad that we have the big cracks in the roads, the water's going through the cracks getting under the subsoil, and it's just washing it away," said Angelina County Pct. 1 Commissioner Greg Harrison.

Precinct 1 has been filling the holes with road material, which is just a temporary solution.

They believe they have found the answer to their problem with the Bomag Reclaimer, a machine that will actually repair the holes, instead of just filling them.

"What we need to do is get in there, get to the base with this machine, till it up, mix some portland with it, lay it back down, and then it will get as hard as a highway," Harrison said.

Precinct 1 has been testing out one of the machines in order to decide if they want to purchase it.

The machine will cost Angelina County around $300,000, which will be paid for with mostly with bond revenue. Harrison said he believes if it's a permanent fix to the roads, it will be worth every penny.

"It will save money in the long run,” Harrison said. “When you go and reclaim a road, you're through with that road for a few years."

Harrison said they plan to start with the worst roads first, and work their way up until all the potholes are fixed. However, Harrison also asked residents to be patient.

"It just takes time to do this,” Harrison said. “Just bear with us. We're working on it and trying to do it in our most feasible way."
