HUDSON, TX (KTRE) - The Hudson Hornets are sending four athletes to the Track and Field State meet at the University of Texas.
Senior Sam Farrell will be making his second state appearance in the 3200 and 1600. He currently has the best times in the state for both events. In the 3200 Farrell's best time is 9:29:00. Farrell can run a 4:21:00 mile.
"I just need to run smart. I trust my training and know I have what it takes. I just need to run a smart race," said Farrell.
Payton Davis will be making his first-ever state appearance as a sophomore. He'll be running the 400 and has the second best time in the state at 48.74 seconds.
Christina Hernandez is a sophomore who qualified in both the one and two mile race. She has the best time in the state for the one mile at 5:15:00. This is Hernandez's second time qualifying for state.
Junior Emma Godfrey will be going to state with her mother, who also happens to be her coach, and she'll be running in the 800. Godfrey has run as fast as 2:20:00 in the 800.
"Her dad and I are just super proud of her. She's worked really hard and we're just really proud of her," said Tricey Godfrey, Emma's mother and coach.
"It's really cool because she (Tricey) ran and so I kind of get to follow in her footsteps and do the same thing. It's pretty cool," said Emma.
The state meet starts Friday at Mike Myers Track Complex in Austin, Texas.
