CROCKETT, TX (KTRE) -

June looks to be a busy month for the Pineywoods Fine Arts Association in Crockett.

The group has several events lined up this summer that they believe give people of all ages a chance to participate.

"June is just packed for us," said Executive Director Bryan Lake. "We start with our Summer Lightnin' Concert series. "It's the best of different genres. there is a wide variety of attractions; rockabilly, Celtic, Americana, and gospel. We have a great gospel group coming in the day before they go to Russia on a tour. They're all top notch. Not a dog in the group."

The concerts will be every Thursday night at the JB & Kathryn Sallas Amphitheater. The rundown is as follows: June 4 - Rosie Flores, June 11 - Johnnie Helm & 3-Tone Sunburst, June 18 - Jones Family Singers - June 25, The Killdares.

The fun doesn't stop with the outdoor events. The group will also hosts a summer art workshop at the Vista Academy in Crockett.

"The kids are taught by some of the best professional artists we can find," Lake said. "We have a muralist coming in from San Antonio. We have stop action animation coming in from Austin. We have a sculpture person coming from San Antonio as well."

Judges at the Angelina County Youth Fair tasted a variety of salsas on Thursday, and it was anything but mild. It's the 69th year the fair has been held, but this is the first time for the salsa, jam, and jellies competition. Many who entered say they were torn between green or red. "I think it's a lot of fun because some kids don't like to bake but there's lots of different aspects of cooking and so salsa and jam and jellies is kind of a loss art," said Kate Rudasill, a j...
