ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A major highway closure caused traffic headaches for commuters in Angelina County.
Both sides of US 69 south of Lufkin were shut down about seven miles north of Huntington around 8:45 a.m. The street was re-opened around 10:10 a.m.
"It's getting very old," Huntington resident Brenda Durham said. "You can't plant a garden, you can't mow the lawn. You can't do anything."
Durham was stuck in the back up for over 30 minutes before deciding to turn around. Steve Parker is a local truck driver and could not find an easy route to work.
"I could probably get through all of these blocked roads, but they won't let me go through," Parker said. "It is impossible to get anywhere."
According to TxDOT, FM 2863 in Nacogdoches County was flooded. TxDOT also reported flooding issues on FM 1475, Tom Holland Road and FM 2108. At 8:25 a.m., flooding was reported on FM 819 and FM 2497. US 59 at Burke is also flooded.
At 2:25 p.m., TxDOT announced all lanes of traffic on State Highway 103, east of FM 2021, have been closed.
Jasper resident Paul Tullier was trying to get back home when the roadblocks were put up.
"I drove through earlier and it was up to my bumper," Tullier said. "Now they say it has came up some more since this morning, so I will just have to wait it out."
Tullier said the Jasper area is under the same stress from the water and is worried it may never end.
"This has been a wet spring and a wet summer," Tullier said. "It looks like it is not going to end."
