LIVINGSTON, TX (KTRE) - Polk County District Clerk Kathy Clifton has resigned her office in the midst of an Texas Attorney General's investigation into financial management, according to the county's district attorney.
In District Attorney Lee Hon's statement, he said Clifton's resignation is effective immediately. District Judges Kayce Jones and Ernie McClendon will determine a successor. In the meantime, the financial management will be coordinated between the district clerk staff and the Polk County Auditor's Office.
Investigators with the AG's office executed search warrants at the district clerk's office on Wednesday. They began investigating the office for financial mismanagement in September, Hon said.
