US 287 blocked in Corrigan after train hits 18-wheeler

CORRIGAN, TX (KTRE) - A portion of US 287 through Corrigan is closed after a train hit an 18-wheeler Thursday afternoon.

The 18-wheeler truck that was hit by the train driven by Dustin John Moore, 38, of Tyler was issued a citation for parking on the railroad tracks. Moore abandoned the truck before it was struck by the train.

A second 18-wheeler was damaged after the train struck the first 18-wheeler. 

The driver of the second 18-wheeler Cedrick Fields, 30, of Magnolia, Arkansas was taken to the hospital following the incident.

According to authorities the engineer of the train become ill on scene and was also transported to the hospital. 

Police Chief Darrell Gibson said both sides of US 59 have slowed down and both sides of US 287 are shut down. Eastbound traffic on US 287 is being re-routed through neighborhoods.
