William R. Johnson court gutted for first time in basketball history

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

After serving the Stephen F. Austin basketball teams for nearly 40 loyal years, the hardwood at the William R. Johnson Coliseum is being replaced.

The court has been sanded and resurfaced throughout the years, but never has the hardwood been replaced.

The board passed for the remodel to be done for less than $400,000. The new court will be up-to-date and also accommodate the games that will be broadcasted on ESPN 3 next year.

The Athletic Department is still looking through new designs and has not picked out what graphics will lay as the new face of the court.

The court will be completed by mid-June. At that time the basketball teams will begin their summer workouts.
