ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Chamber of Lufkin and Angelina County officials have canceled the 18th annual Neches River Rendezvous this year due to the high water levels on the Neches River. The annual event has about 300 people canoe 10-miles on the Neches River.

According to KTRE Chief Meteorologist Brad Hlozek, the Neches River is under a Flood Warning as it's above flood stage. The lake is expected to rise to near 16.7 feet by Saturday morning before slowly falling.

However, Hlozek says, with more heavy rain in the forecast through the holiday weekend, it would not be surprised to see the Flood Warning extended through next week.

The Neches River Rendezvous was set for June 6th. Organizers say those who paid for a spot will get a refund.
