LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - It was a signing day frenzy at Lufkin High School where they had seven signings Friday morning.
It all started with Jerry McCarty who signed to play baseball at East Texas Baptist University.
Then Keyahna Jones committed to play basketball at Clarendon University as a post.
Jaylah Wyatt, a district and area champion in the 100 meters, signed to run track at Huston-Tillotson in Austin.
State champion goalkeeper Omar Roque signed to play at Jacksonville College while his teammate Chris Marquez will be taking his talents to Letourneau University
Then there was a brother sister duo signing with Mirka Zamarripa committing to Jacksonville College to play soccer and her brother Omar Zamarripa signed, who was this year's state MVP after Lufkin soccer's state championship game. It was after his lights out performances in the state tournament that Eastern New Mexico State decided they wanted to give Omar an offer.
"It was after the state final. I was kind of waiting on a D2 offer and I got it," said Omar. "I was just happy to go there. I got it after I went onto the campus. I liked the campus and I liked the coach too. He's a very good guy. I'm just happy I got this opportunity."
