LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Angelina County Judge Wes Suiter has signed a disaster declaration for the county, in the hopes of receiving some assistance for damage to roads and other infrastructure with the flooding rains received over the past several weeks.
"With forecasts predicting more storms, this makes us available for any state assistance that may be available," Suiter said. "It puts us on a list that they've compiled with other counties with damage to personal and public property, so we can be sure there is funding for uninsured and under-insured and for small business grants."
Suiter said Governor Greg Abbott has already signed a declaration for 37 counties and more are requesting the same.
Suiter said it is likely Abbott will have to reach out to Washington for federal funding in addition to any state funding handed down from Austin for the listed counties.
