NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Nacogdoches County Sheriff's deputies arrested two men Thursday morning in connection to allegations that they robbed several people during a home invasion in the 3800 block of South Fredonia Street at gunpoint before they led authorities on a high-speed chase whey their car reached speeds of more than 100 mph.
Derric O'Brien Blanton, 29, of Nacogdoches, and Terrance Marshawn Carter, 23, of Cushing, are both still being held in the Nacogdoches County Jail. Each man was charged with first-degree felony aggravated robbery, two counts of second-degree felony possession of a controlled substance, and Class B misdemeanor possession of marijuana. No bail amount has been set at this time.
According to the Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office activity report, NCSO deputies were dispatched to the 300 block of South Fredonia Street at about 8:40 a.m. Thursday in reference to a home-invasion robbery that had just occurred. When they got to the scene, the victims told them that two masked men entered the residence and told the home owner that they were armed.
"Both male subjects rummaged through the residence and then speed off in a maroon Ford Fusion.," according to a press release from the Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office.
One of the suspects allegedly struck one of the victims with a handgun before Blanton and Carter fled the scene, the report stated.
After deputies arrived in the area, the suspects' Fusion was spotted on FM 2782 traveling at a high rate of speed. the press release stated. However, the deputy was unable to catch them.
Later, the suspects' vehicle was spotted in the Douglass area traveling toward Nacogdoches on State Highway 21 at speeds of more than 100 mph, the press release stated. Because of the high rate of speed, NCSO deputies again lost sight of the Fusion.
Then Nacogdoches Police officers located the car, which was still traveling at a high rate of speed as it entered the city limits, the press release stated.
"The suspect once again eluded authorities and was last seen turning onto Ritchie Street," the press release stated. "The Sheriff Office and Police Department were able to get ahead of the suspect and was able to corner him in at the Loop and Gasaway Street. Both men were taken into custody at the scene."
Nacogdoches County Sheriff Jason Bridges said that NCSO deputies and investigators found several different types of illegal narcotics in the vehicle - 10 grams of cocaine, 116 grams of PCP, 615 grams of codeine, and marijuana.
Bridges said the sheriff's office is investigating what items were taken from the home.
"We believe that the drugs found inside the vehicle, may have been stolen from the residence with about $1,500.00 dollars in cash that was also recovered from the suspects," Bridges said. "This is commonly referred to as a RIP, where one drug dealer knocks off another."
Bridges said more criminal charges are pending.
According to the report, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers and Nacogdoches Police officers assisted in the search for the armed robbery suspects.
