LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Students and staff at one East Texas school lent a much needed hand to residents affected by the tornadoes in Van.
"Book fairs and teddy bears" is how St. Cyprian's Episcopal School rallied behind the children who lost so much. The goal is to raise money by selling books, and in turn, the proceeds will be used to purchase more books and toys. The book fair was the idea of school librarian Susanne Lively, who was simply thankful for the opportunity to make a positive impact.
"It's just a way to give back. I've been very blessed and I love my kids, so they're going to help some other kids," Lively said.
Not only will the children of Van benefit from the book fair, but it will also serve as a teaching moment for the children at St. Cyprian's who now understand the power of helping others.
The book fair runs until next Friday, and afterwards, Lively said she plans to personally deliver boxes filled with books and toys to Van sometime this July.
