NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Former Iowa men's basketball coach Fred Hoiberg accepted the NBA Chicago Bulls head coaching position Tuesday. The Cyclones have listed Stephen F. Austin head basketball coach Brad Underwood as a candidate to fill in the vacant position.
A report from CBS Sports and ESPN basketball insider Jeff Goodman lists Underwood as well as Valparaiso's Bryce Drew, Murray State's Steve Prohm, and Iowa State assistant T.J. Otzelberger as candidates.
SB Nation reported that Underwood was a candidate for the Iowa State position, as well as former NBA assistant Lindsey Hunter.
Underwood has had two phenomenal years coaching the Lumberjacks, and it has caught national attention. After making back-to-back NCAA appearances, Underwood ended the 2014 season as the winningest coach in two season as a head coach in the NCAA with a 61-8 record.
Underwood has been named the Southland Conference Coach of the Year both seasons. He has also been awarded the Joe B. Hall Award, Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Coach of the Year Award, and NABC UPS Division I District 23 Coach of the Year Award.
