LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Retiring Lufkin Daily News Publisher Greg Shrader said he believes Lufkin is the best place he has worked in his over 30 years in the news business.

"Lufkin is a great place for the local news," Shrader said to a lunch crowd at Crown Colony Country Club. ""We've had the privilege and pleasure to live, play and associate with the finest people in the best county in the best state in the best country in the world. May God bless you."

According to the Lufkin Daily News Website, Shrader started his newspaper career in 1974 with the Houston Chronicle. Shrader has also worked at the Bryan-College Station Eagle, The Abilene Reporter-News and The Galveston County Daily News before becoming publisher of the Kerrville Daily Times. Shrader had been in Lufkin for the last seven years.

The paper says Shrader's last day will be July 31.
