LIVINGSTON, TX (KTRE) -

A 7-year-old girl drowned in a Livingston motel's pool Saturday night.

According to a press release, Livingston Police officers were dispatched to the Best Western Inn and Suites located at 335 US Highway 59 Loop South in regard to a child who was found unresponsive in the swimming pool.

When the officers arrived on the scene, they found the victim and the family in the pool area, where CPR was being administered on the child. Jamia McKinney, of Livingston, was taken by ambulance to CHI St. Luke Health Memorial Hospital, and she was later pronounced dead.

Justice of the Peace David Johnson ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of McKinney's death.

‘The child was visiting other family members at the Best Western that were in town for a family reunion,” the press release stated. “The investigation is continuing by the Livingston Police Department, and once completed, it will be referred to the Polk County District Attorney's Office.”
