LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Although all grade schools in Angelina County recently ended the school year, pre-registration is now under way for the Junior League of Lufkin's 5th Annual “Back To School Bonanza” for the 2015 – 2016 academic year.
The process begins at the Buckner Children and Family Services office, 3402 Daniel McCall Dr., north of Angelina College.
Parents or guardians with a financial need have to make an appointment to pre-register their child first. When you arrive for your appointment, staff members at Buckner will verify identification and proof of enrollment for the student.
Stephanie Gustafson is a member of the Junior League of Lufkin and has been involved with the Back To School Bonanza since its inception.
As chair for this year's giveaway, she hopes to provide free backpacks filled with school supplies, access to a free haircut, school uniforms and a lot more, to nearly 2,000 financially disadvantaged children.
"When a child can go to school with a brand new backpack, supplies, they just feel so good about themselves. It encourages them," Gustafson said.
To pull off another successful giveaway, the Junior League of Lufkin has partnered with Lufkin's First United Methodist Church and Buckner. The 5th Annual Back to School Bonanza will be Saturday, August 1st.
