3rd annual Megaburger contest set for June 27 at Nac Expo Center

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - The 3rd Annual MegaBurger contest hosted by Butcher Boys in Nacogdoches is underway.

Contestants are challenged to eat a 6 pound burger in one hour and are awarded cash prizes. However the owner, Billy Huddleston said the contest is more than just eating a 6 pound burger.

"Well it's not only the mega burger competition, it's the outdoor aspect of it too," Huddleston said. "Everything from helicopter rides to machine gun shooting, anything you want, any kind of fishing stuff."

The MegaBurger contest has grown over the years, therefore some big changes needed to happen.

"We decided to have it at the [expo] center," Huddleston said. "Normally, we have it here at Butcher Boys, but we don't have enough room. And I know there will be about 2 to 3,000 people out there, and they will be able to see more of it and what it's all about. And it's just fun. The people gather all around and egg them on."

The proceeds from the competition is donated to multiple charities.

"This year, some of it is going to MB Anderson and another organization. We always take care of the little kids at MB Anderson and do something special for them. It's just a good thing and everybody likes it," Huddleston said.

Overall, Huddleston said the contest is a community deal.

"It's a lot of fun and always a lot of comradery and that's what I like and what my store is about," Huddleston said.

Sign-ups end on June 22 and cost $20. The MegaBurger contest takes place on June 27 at the Nacogdoches Expo Center. For more information, visit Butcher Boy's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/butcherboysnac.
