LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - After months of construction the Family Crisis Center's new thrift store finally opened.
The store was packed for its first day of business despite the heavy rains from what was left of Tropical Depression Bill. The non profit women's shelter broke ground on the store six moths ago.
The Family Crisis Center takes your donations and sells them to the public and those proceeds go to the Family Crisis Center, which assists people in domestic violence situations.
"It is a great opportunity for us," director Heather Carty said. " Since we own the building, all the money will go back to the program. It will allow for our residents to get the financial and emotional help they need."
The new store is located next to the Walmart Super center.
"It's all about location," Carty said. "We have a great location and we have amazing stuff. Everything is clean and top of the line for the price you pay."
The fun did not stop after the Thursday grand opening. On Friday, there will be a upcoming demo at 10 am and 3 pm, which includes a 10% off coupon to use that day. On Saturday, there will be carnival style games and bounce houses, plus free hot dogs and popcorn to the first 300 people. Sunday will feature a concert by Joe Cuellar and free BBQ.
