NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

Officers with the Nacogdoches Police Department arrested a 30-year-old Baytown man early Monday morning in connection to allegations that he broke the front glass of the Kroger grocery “to find a place to stay for the remainder of the night.”

Gerald Lynn McAlpin is still being held in the Nacogdoches County Jail on a state-jail felony criminal mischief between $1,500 and $20,000 charge from the Nacogdoches Police Department and a Class C misdemeanor charge from the Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office. No bail has been set at this time.

According to the arrest warrant, the incident at the Kroger store located at 1215 North Street occurred at about 1:32 a.m. Monday. After McAlpin was identified as the suspect, an NPD officer made contact with him, and he admitted to being intoxicated on “an unknown substance” and breaking the glass because he wanted to find a place to stay for the rest of the night.

McAlpin also admitted to breaking windows at two other locations on East Main Street and destroying flowers in the downtown area, the affidavit stated. Because all of the property owners wished to file charges against McAlpin, the damages totaled more than $1,500.
