POLK COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

Deputies with the Polk County Sheriff's Office have arrested two Livingston women accused of showering while the three children they were supposed to be caring for were playing on a road.

Stormi Gail Cook, 27, and Rebecca Rene Townley, 33, are each charged with state-jail felony abandoning a child. Their bond is set at $10,000.

According to an arrest affidavit, deputies were dispatched to FM 3459 on June 15 and saw three children, aged 8, 5 and 3 walking down the road without adult supervision.

The deputy said he met with Cook, who said she thought her stepdaughter was watching them. She said she was showering with her girlfriend, Townley, while they were playing in the road.

The deputy said he met with a witness, who said she was driving on the road and had to slam on her brakes to avoid hitting one of the children.

Deputies obtained a warrant for the couple's arrest on June 21. They were arrested on the same day.
