A 35-year-old Hudson man accepted a plea bargain deal of three years of deferred adjudication for abusing his then-8-year-old son Thursday morning.

Dumaurier Desean Applon appeared in Judge Paul White's 159 Judicial District Court Thursday morning for a plea bargain hearing. As part of his plea deal, Applon pleaded guilty to a third-degree felony injury to a child charge. In addition to the deferred adjudication, which is very similar to probation, Applon will also have to pay a $300 fine.

When Applon was arrested in May 2014, Meagan Stone, the child's mother was also arrested and charged with third-degree injury to a child.

In a previous East Texas news story, Hudson Police Chief Jimmy Casper said that he got called out to the Hudson School at approximately 11 a.m. on May 1, 2014 in reference to an 8-year-old boy with bruises on his body. When Casper talked to the boy, the child told him that both his father and mother had assaulted him.

Based on the fact that the boy's injuries were consistent with his story, the Hudson Police Department obtained arrest warrants for Applon and Stone. They were arrested at their home at approximately 4 p.m. on May 1 and transported to the Angelina County Jail.
