Two-vehicle collision in San Augustine leaves one dead, several injured

SAN AUGUSTINE COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a two-vehicle collision on US 96 in San Augustine County left one dead and several injured Friday night.

Bryan Spurgeon, 53, of Orange, was traveling northbound on US 96 five miles south of San Augustine when he swerved into the southbound lane and hit a 2015 Honda Pilot driven by William Pond, 61, of Orange.

Malinda Pond, 61, of Orange, who was riding in the front passenger seat, was pronounced dead at the scene by San Augustine Justice of the Peace J.D. Miller.

William Pond was taken to ETMC Tyler where he is currently in stable condition.

There were two children in the backseat of the Honda Pilot. One was taken to San Augustine Hospital where they were treated and released. The other was taken to LSU Hospital in Shreveport where their condition has been listed as stable.

Spurgeon was taken to San Augustine Hospital, where he was treated and released.
