LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Buckner Children and Family Services' "Shoes for the Orphan Soul" is counting its community blessings. The agency's recent shoe drive has netted just over 1,700 hundred pairs of new shoes that will be given away to needy Angelina County students registered for The Junior League of Lufkin's 5th Annual “Back to School Bonanza.”

Buckner set a collection goal of 1,800 pairs of shoes, but staffers say they are thankful for its 35 business and church partners for their gatherings and donations.

Buckner is still accepting new shoes at its offices at 3402 Daniel McCall Dr. That is also the location where parents or legal guardians can pre-register their child for the Bonanza. To make a reservation, call Buckner at (936) 637-3300. Appointments are on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
