Lufkin to close Loop 287 from US 59 to to US during 4th of July show

LUFKIN, TX (News Release) -

Between 8 and 11 p.m. on Saturday, Loop 287 between U.S. Highway 59 North and U.S. Highway 69 North in Lufkin will be closed to all vehicle traffic for the July 4th Fireworks Extravaganza sponsored by the City of Lufkin and the law office of Mike Love.

The day of the event, handicapped parking will be available in the Expo Center parking lot, and beginning at 5 p.m., shuttle buses will be available from Lufkin High School to Ellen Trout Zoo. Return shuttles will be available after the fireworks display.

Following the fireworks display, all vehicles exiting the zoo and Expo Center parking areas will be directed northbound on Loop 287.

Lufkin Police Department wishes to remind everyone that the City of Lufkin Code of Ordinances prohibits the possession of fireworks in a city park, including Ellen Trout Zoo, and prohibits the possession of fireworks anywhere within inside the city limits of Lufkin.
