LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Two Deep East Texas counties have been added to the federal disaster declaration to provide 'Individual Assistance.'
According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, homeowners and renters in Angelina and Trinity counties can now apply for assistance from the severe storms this spring.
The federal assistance may include grants to help pay for rent, temporary housing and home repairs, as well as other serious disaster-related needs.
The Deep East Texas counties join 40 other Texas counties eligible to apply for state and federal assistance.
FEMA has also approved an extension of the deadline to register for assistance in the 42 counties designated for 'Individual Assistance.' The new deadline is August 27, 2015.
Officials recommend residents and business owners should apply right away and enroll in the overall federal disaster recovery process, and not wait for insurance claims to settle.
Victims can apply for FEMA assistance online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or call 800-621-3362 toll free from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (local time) daily until further notice.
Small businesses that experienced flood damage can also apply for small business loans through The U.S. Small Business Administration. Businesses can apply for those loans at www.sba.gov. .
