LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Lufkin Police officers arrested 24-year-old man on an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge after he allegedly struck a woman with his pickup following an altercation in the parking lot of the Whataburger on John Redditt Drive early Thursday morning.

Eldon Jacob Fuller, of Lufkin was booked into the Angelina County Jail Thursday on a felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge. He was released from the jail later that day after he posted a bail amount of $10,000.

According to the narrative of the police report, a Lufkin Police officer responded to a 911 call about a woman being hit with a truck in the parking lot of the Whataburger restaurant at 102 S. John Redditt Drive at about 2:45 a.m. Thursday.

When the officer arrived on the scene, he talked to several witnesses, and they told him that the victim had gotten into an argument with the occupants of the pickup, which was described as a gray 2014 Dodge Ram, the report stated.

The witnesses told the officer that the driver of the pickup started to pull out of the parking lot during the argument. Then the driver of the Dodge Ram accelerated in reverse, striking the victim with the rear end of the truck, the report stated. At that point, the driver of the pickup shifted into drive and left the parking lot at a high rate of speed, the report stated.

Several witnesses at the scene identified Fuller as the driver of the Dodge Ram, according to the report. When the officer spoke to the victim at the hospital, she said she didn’t know the driver’s name, but said that he had red hair and a red beard. According to the report, her injuries included several large bruises.

Believing that they had probable cause to arrest Fuller, LPD officers went to try to find Fuller at his home. While they were on their way, they spotted Fuller walking down his road, he report stated.

Fuller was arrested and taken to the county jail. Fuller allegedly told the officer who read him his Miranda rights at the jail that he was the one driving the pickup at Whataburger.
