3 purebred puppies stolen from Lufkin animal shelter

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Sometime between Wednesday and Thursday morning, a suspect or suspects stole three purebred puppies from Lufkin's Kurth Memorial Animal Shelter.

The case is being investigated as a state-jail felony theft because the combined estimated value of the three puppies is between $1,500 and $20,000, according to the Lufkin Police Department's daily activity report.

According to the report, the theft occurred sometime between 5 p.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. Thursday.

The suspect or suspects took a boxer, a husky, and a German shepherd. In addition, the director of the animal shelter told police that the suspect or suspects also took the kennel tags in an apparent attempt to keep employees from noticing that the puppies were missing.
