SAN AUGUSTINE, TX (KTRE)
It's a busy time in the San Augustine County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service's office. District Extension Administrator Shelia Lewis, who is based in Overton, has been busy trying to staff the San Augustine office.
Jerry Nickerson recently retired after serving as the Extension Agent fort 18 years. At Tuesday's Commissioner's Court meet, Lewis introduced San Augustine native Shane Bridges as her recommendation to replace the Nickerson.
The four-member court and County Judge Samye Johnson were unanimous in their approval of Bridges. The Unites States Air Force veteran is a graduate of San Augustine High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture at Stephen F. Austin State University.
Before assuming the role officially, Bridges has to participate in the 30-day FIRST STEP For Success program in Nacogdoches County. This is a training program for new agents to develop a better understanding of the role of the county agent, while also allowing them to observe and experience day-to-day operations in a typical county Extension Office.
Lewis also announced her plan to advertise for another agent position to serve San Augustine County. Anyone interested in applying can call the District Extension Administrator headquarters in Overton at (903) 834-6191.
