NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A Nacogdoches woman who lost her husband to liver disease just three months ago is channeling her grief into an organ donor awareness event.
Charlotte Stanaland is inviting the community to the Larry Stanaland "Live It and Give It" Memorial and Organ Donor Awareness Event.
Larry was once a strong, strapping poultry farmer and rancher.
It wasn't until a short time before his death in April that the father and grandfather was diagnosed with liver disease.
Larry was placed on the transplant list, but the opportunity came too late.
This Saturday, Charlotte will offer education about the transplant program in a fun way.
"A transplant coordinator from Houston Methodist is coming up and she is going to do donor registration, donor education, awareness," Charlotte said. "We're going to have food, burgers provided by Outback, and live music and a raffle and auction and celebrate his memory and his honor, as well as make something good out of something so terrible."
Here's the information. "The Larry Stanaland Memorial Benefit" is Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Red Barn on North Street in Nacogdoches.
