ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A three-vehicle accident involving two 18-wheelers and a Dodge Ram pickup on State Highway 7 Friday afternoon has resulted in the death of a 60-year-old Crockett man.
Trooper David Hendry, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, said the man who died in the wreck has been identified as Clyde Edward Roberts.
According to a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper at the scene, at least one person has died as a result of the accident, which occurred on the west side of the Angelina River Bridge on Highway 7 sometime between 12:30 and 12:50 p.m.
Gary Lewis Caddenhead, a 49-year-old truck driver from Grapeland who was involved in the wreck, said that he was traveling west in a 2007 Freightliner on Highway 7 when the accident occurred. He said that for some reason the driver of the Dodge Ram, which was traveling east, crossed the center line, bounced off of the trailer of one 18-wheeler, and went under Caddenhead's trailer.
A DPS press release stated that the first 18-wheeler struck by the pickup was a 1999 Peterbilt driven by Jose Alan Cespedes, 65, Loxahatchee, Florida.
The driver of the pickup was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Donnie Puckett.
As of 5:20 p.m. Friday, the wreck had been cleared and Highway 7 was re-opened to traffic.
