NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

On Friday, the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office released the names of the elderly couple that were found dead at a home in Garrison as a result of an apparent murder-suicide.

According to a press release, Ira Clifton Burgay, 81, and Dawn Bradley Lang, 72, were pronounced dead at the home, which is located on FM 138, Thursday afternoon.

Nacogdoches County Sheriff Jason Bridges said that Burgay and Lang had lived together since the early part of 2000 and were described as a loving couple. He added that NCSO investigators are still trying to determine why Burgay shot Lang at their residence shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday.

Deputies were dispatched out to the home after Burgay allegedly sent a text message to a relative who lives out of town that stated that he had killed his wife. After the NCSO deputies forced their way into the home, they found Burgay and Lang dead in the living room. Each person had a gunshot wound to the head, the press release stated.

Bridges said it looks as though Burgay turned the gun on himself after he sent the text message to a relative.

“Motive for the murder is still under investigation,” the press release stated. “Authorities have learned that Burgay had some medical issues and had just recently returned from the hospital.”

Bridges said that the crime appeared to be spontaneous and not planned out.
