Man Charged in Bizarre Car Theft

Police have charged William McCauley of Hemphill with deadly conduct.  He's accused of speeding off in a car in Lufkin with a man clinging to the hood.

It all started when another man test drove a BMW from the Lonestar Motor Company on South First Street in Lufkin.  That person drove the car to a car lot in Hemphill and traded it to McCauley without having the title.  When McCauley came back to Lufkin to get the title, the Lonestar dealership told him the car had not been sold.  That's when McCauley drove off.

The guy who originally took the BMW has not been charged.
