Lufkin man accused of driving drunk during fatal wreck

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A Lufkin man is in jail after a weekend wreck killed one and injured another.

Daniel Martin was booked into the Angelina County Jail following a Sunday morning wreck. Martin is being charged with intoxicated manslaughter with a vehicle and intoxicated assault with a vehicle. As of Monday morning, his bond had not been set.

According to DPS, Martin was driving south on U.S. Highway 69 North.  Just after 6:00 a.m. when something happened as he approached Farm to Market 706 causing his 2008 Dodge Nitro to leave the roadway and roll over.

An ambulance took Martin to Woodland Heights Medical Center in Lufkin. According to a press release, DPS determined Martin was under the influence of alcohol.

Martin had two passengers in his car: brothers Michael Robert Mariana, 27, and Justin James-Lee Mariana, 23.

DPS says Justin was killed in the crash.  He was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:08 a.m.

His brother, Michael, was flown to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler with serious injuries.

The investigation as to what caused the one-car accident is ongoing.
