LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

A new building for the Pregnancy Help Center of Lufkin in the Gaslight district could soon be a reality.

Director Paula Havard said the group received a big boost this week after an anonymous donor called the center looking to help. Havard said the non-profit needs about $60,000 to reach their goal for the down payment on the new building. Havard said the donor told her he would give $30,000 if the center could raise the remaining $30,000 by Aug.1.

"I realized he was offering a tremendous opportunity to the Pregnancy Help Center," Havard said. "It was a tearful moment just to realize God had been working on his heart for a couple of weeks to make this donation and one that would solicit other funds. This is truly a blessing."

Havard said it is time to move on from their current building.

"This has been a five-year process to find a new spot for us," Havard said.

Havard said the center has outgrown the space they rent and upgrades will need to be made if they wanted to continue to stay there.

Havard said the center will accept donations by phone. Supporters can call (936) 632-9200. Supporters can also mail the center a check to 106 S. Bynum; Lufkin, Texas 75904 or visit the Website, where there is a Paypal account set up.

The Community Food Drive in Lufkin is special to some because of the large amount of people it brings together from all walks of life.  "It's just like so many different people, very diverse," said volunteer, Priscilla Gonzalez. "It's just kind of cool to see all these people coming together to do one thing." For others, like Keith Kennedy, it's all about the service being provided to the greater community. "They're in miracle territory,...More >>
