LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Angelina County Chamber of Commerce has named a new president.
Jim Johnson, who formerly served as the vice president of the Pearland Chamber, was announced as the new president in a press conference Friday afternoon.
"The search committee interviewed several excellent candidates, but Jim easily rose to the top with his previous Chamber experience, as well as his energy and new ideas for leading our Chamber," Aimee Slusher, the chairman of the chamber's board of directors, said in a press release. "We are very proud that he and his family have chosen to come here and become a part of our great community."
Johnson served as the vice president for the Pearland Chamber of Commerce for four years. In that capacity, he oversaw the organizations membership and governmental affairs programs. While Johnson was with the Pearland Chamber of Commerce, he also started the Young Professionals of Pearland.
"I am excited to be given the opportunity to work with great businesses, community leaders and partners and an amazing staff," said Johnson. "The Lufkin/Angelina County Chamber of Commerce is a business driven community focused organization that plays a key role in the region and I look forward to leading the way."
After earning a history degree from Texas State University, Johnson worked in event management for two Hilton hotels in Houston.
"He is an Advisory Board Member for Keep Pearland Beautiful and serves on the Western Association of Chamber Executives Emerging Leaders Council and was an inaugural member of the program," the press release stated. "In 2015, he graduated from both Leadership Pearland and Institute for Organizational Management, a professional development program of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Johnson is married to his wife Jasmine and they have one son, William."
Johnson is also a graduate of the Institute for Organizational Management, a professional development program of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
Johnson replaces Jerry Huffman, who retired as president in May.
