NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - 'Live United'; it's not only the name of the Nacogdoches Area United Way's 2016 campaign, but it's also the overall goal for the organization and the community it serves.
"We help families, put people to work that need help going to work and we're all about helping those who need us most," said Gary Ashcraft, President, NAUW.
While the 2016 campaign kick-off isn't until August, the NAUW decided to get things started early with a 'Pacesetter Campaign' and that's where Nacogdoches Memorial Health comes in.
"They came to us and asked if we would represent the community as a pacesetter hospital. We're excited about getting this campaign started early and raising funds for the community," said David Schaefer, Nacogdoches Memorial Health.
Memorial health's goal is to raise $33,000 before the big kick-off in August, a task Schaefer feels his team can handle.
"I think we're ready to step up and meet the challenge," Schaefer said.
There's even a chance to win a new car which is a part of the 'Fair Share Donations' project.
"The way it works is that you pledge to a certain amount to come out of your paycheck which starts in January of the next year," Ashcraft said.
Paycheck contributions are usually in the amount of one-hour of pay per month, adding to the overall goal of $350,000; all in the name of giving back.
"You bet ya, that's why we raise the money," Ashcraft said.
The 2016 'Live United' campaign kicks off on Tuesday, August 11th at 6 p.m. at the Banita Creeks Hall in Nacogdoches. Tickets are $20 per person and $200 for a table of eight.
