East Texas organization offering assistance with summer electric bills

NACOGDOCHES, TX (News Release) -

Hot and humid days mean high summer cooling bills as families try to cope with the oppressive heat. Assistance with those bills may be available to local families. Greater East Texas Community Program (GETCAP) is utilizing LIHEAP funding for households who qualify.

"We are especially concerned about the elderly, disabled, and those with fragile health," said Karen Swenson, the executive director of GETCAP.

All eligibility is based on household income and need. Each component has specific guidelines. Individuals are encouraged to call and determine potential for eligibility.

Individuals are seen by appointment at the local offices. To inquire or request assistance, call 1-800-621-5746. The Request for Assistance form can also be found on the organization's Website at www.get-cap.org. The energy assistance program administered by the Greater East Texas Community Action is available in Angelina, Cherokee, Gregg, Houston, Nacogdoches, Polk, Rusk, San Jacinto, Smith, Trinity, Wood, Chambers, Hardin, Liberty, Jefferson, and Orange counties. GETCAP programs are available to all, regardless of race, color, creed, or national origin.
